Dear Reader, Fall has definitely arrived here in northern New Mexico. The mountains are garlanded with bright yellow aspen and orange shrub oak under the bright blue skies. While many shrubs and flowers have turned brown, chamisa (rabbit brush) stands tall and radiant in the plains and mesas. The smell of roast chile is in the air. It's cooler, but the sun is still strong. As we head into fall and winter, we embrace the harvest season. We ask ourselves what harvests this year has brought and how we have evolved since it started. Harvest is also a time of a renewed sense of community, both to gather the harvest and to celebrate togetherness. As the veil gets thinner, we approach the time when many cultures honor the ancestors, such as Dia de los Muertos, All Souls' Day, Samhain, even the obscured origins that make Halloween so popular. It's also the time for harvest celebrations, such as Thanksgiving, which feed a soul need, even as their historical origins and complicated heritage have become obscure. These traditions persist, because they feed a need in our individual and collective souls. So let's feed our souls! The need for community is also a soul need. It has given rise to such terms as sangha. Many of our friends, colleagues, students and subscribers have shared with us their interest in community and so, after thinking about how to best offer this for a while, we have decided to start offering a monthly membership, which we are calling "In the Knows." The essence of the membership is that is gives us a continuing foundation for connecting with each other, in exclusive monthly meetings, an online discussion forum, and other ways, so we can witness and behold each other as we commit to our soul growth and cultivating our personal myths. This membership also includes participation in our Aromatic Journey and a discount at cathysattars.com, so you get to work more deeply with our aromatic allies, through which we can practice our connection to the larger-than-human world and explore our own unknown dimensions, the unconscious. Because we sometimes need to delve into individual concerns privately, the membership also gives you an exclusive discount on our individual consultations. While the seasons come and go, our intention for this membership is that it's continuous and offers ongoing connection. Like plants' roots, it allows us to support and nourish each other and like the plants' seeds we are excited for the fruits to come. Happy Autumn! Florian & Cathy |

Dear Reader, The best way to get to know an aromatic, when possible, is to have a relationship with the plant or tree in nature. When this happens, we never forget the unique qualities of the plant and our relationship with it. Scots pine is one of these aromatics for me. It is one of the most widely distributed pines in the world and grows naturally from Scotland almost to the Pacific Ocean and from above the Arctic Circle in Scandinavia to the Mediterranean. (1) It became an important tree...
Dear Reader, As the days get warmer and spring settles into its rhythm, I find myself unfurling like the buds on the trees and the plants. I’m called to go out into the world more, not just for errands and appointments and the daily dog walks, but for enjoyment, adventure and discovery. Hikes, drives, meeting up with friends… The sun can be intense here in the high desert and so I always like to take a hydrosol or full spectrum spray in my bag or rucksack to cool me off and bring some...
Dear Reader, Thanksgiving happens in the US this week, followed in a month by Christmas. While these holidays can allow us to connect to a deep soul need during this cold inward season, they can also be a significant source of stress. Under stress, we regress and can lose sight of our soul needs, get distracted and ungrounded. Many then can't wait for the season to be over, instead of taking the time to honor our soul needs during this precious time. Here are five ways to stay connected to...
